What did Donald Trump do today?
He declared imminent victory in Iran… again.
Today, Trump said that "Iran will be defeated very soon."
He said the exact same thing on March 9, just over a week into the war, which has now lasted four and a half months.
Since the start of the war, Trump has:
- seen 14 American servicemembers die
- increased the amount of oil Iran is able to sell without threat of sanctions
- surrendered de facto control of the Strait of Hormuz to Iran
- signed a humiliating memorandum agreeing, at least in principle, to pay Iran more than $300 billion in reparations
- spiked average gas prices to nearly $5
Why does this matter?
- At this point absolutely nobody should trust Trump's judgment on military matters.
- One way to avoid having to surrender to a vastly weaker military opponent is to not launch an unwinnable war strategy in the first place.
