What did Donald Trump do today?

He got confused about where a major American city is.

Trump threw a Super Bowl party at one of his luxury Florida golf resorts this weekend. Club members who attended paid Trump $450,000 each in fees for the privilege—plus $75 for the actual event. On the other hand, taxpayers paid $3.4 million so that Trump could entertain his paying customers in person.

Earlier in the week, Trump was asked which team he liked in this year's Super Bowl. Most presidents try to be diplomatic in that situation, but Trump took it a step further with an answer that made it clear he didn't know which teams were playing. Of course, it's not really important that the president follow sports—but he does need to know where major American cities are.

The Kansas City that the Kansas City Chiefs are from is in Missouri. (Trump eventually deleted this tweet.)

Trump gets confused about this sort of thing a lot.

Why should I care about this?

  • No one "senior moment" is an indication of poor mental health, but there's been a lot more than one.
  • Public officials aren't supposed to use their positions to prop up their private businesses.
